Unified Communications (UC) is a commonly used term for the integration of disparate communications systems, media, devices and applications.
UC creates opportunities to simplify and manage communications, and cut through the complexity of multiple devices, this means reduced time to decision, increased productivity and the ability to provide a simple and consistent user experience across all types of communications.
The history of Unified Communications is tied to the evolution of the supporting technology - voice and data networks.
Originally, business telephone systems were a private branch exchange (PBX) provided and managed by the local phone company or a PBX which were more internalised with staff that managed them.
As companies began to deploy data networks in their environment, traditional networking companies began to create equipment that could transport voice calls across a company network from site to site, which in turn evolved to true IP based systems which replaced the traditional PBX.
With the advent of IP Telephony the handset was no longer a digital device hanging off a copper loop from a PBX. Instead, the handset lived on the network as another computer device; as such applications could be pushed out to the endpoint to enable the end-user with advanced features enabled by web services.
NETconnection Systems has worked within and delivered solutions to enterprises throughout the history and evolution of unified communications. Having started as a data networking integrator, we delivered our first converged voice and data solution in 1998, and have gone on to partner with key UC and supporting technology vendors.
We have a deep understanding of the infrastructure transport and the IP based applications that lead to the realisation of the benefits promised by unified communications, and have the experience, expertise and knowledge to deliver the right UC solution to your business.
